The first permanent chapter of what is now the B’nai B’rith Girls was organized in December 1927 in San Francisco, California, by Rose Mauser. Mauser worked with Mattie Olcovich and Essie Solomon, who served as the first advisors of B’nai B’rith Women’s Chapter #1. Following Mauser’s initiative, dozens of soon-to-be BBG chapters mushroomed across the United States without central leadership and under many names, such as Junior Auxiliaries, B’nai B’rith Junior Leagues, and BZB. Mauser wrote the first bylaws, rituals, and installation ceremonies that paved the way for the rituals we know and love today.
