Appreciating the fact that you are a busy person, the Su-
preme Advisory Council has always been reluctant to refer
to the chairman of an Advisory Board a matter that might
be handled by the chapter itself.
However, in this particular instance, we find it necessary
to place the following project in your hands because we do
not want to refer it to a set of officers whose term ends
within the next week or so; we cannot refer it to the new
officers because generally five or six weeks elapse before
all election reports are in. The matter at hand demands
prompt and efficient attention and we, therefore, turn to
you.
THE PROJECT: The members of the Supreme Advisory Council
along with the leaders of other Jewish and non-Jewish youth
groups have watched with growing concern the spread of
fascism and communism which threaten not only Jewry but de
mocracy itself. As loyal Americans and Canadians it is
therefore our duty to promote a better understanding of
Americanism and Canadianism and to further the harmony among
our fellow citizens.
Since our Port Jervis camp convention in 1936, we have laid
repeated emphasis on "patriotism" as one of the seven car-
dinal principles of A.Z.A. As one of our projects last year,
we experimented with a patriotic program on Washington's
birthday, Feb. 22nd, in cooperation with non-Jewish youth
organizations, and with a special effort to get at least 50%
gentile attendance at meetings.
It is putting it mildly to say that these "Youth and De-
mocracy" rallies went over successfully. In scores of com-
munities, they were still the subject of favorable discussion
