founded, Washington Post Chair-
man Katharine Graham has
stepped down, naming as chair-
man her son, Donald Graham,
and as president, Southfield na-
tive ALAN SPOON.
Mr. Spoon first joined the Post
corporation in the early 1980s as
vice president for new business
development and planning. In
1991, when former chief operat-
ing officer Richard Simmons re-
tired, Mr. Spoon was promoted
to executive vice president and
chief operating officer.
