Supreme Lodge Executive Committee Meeting Report, March 4, 1946
SUPREME LODGE
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING
February 3, 4, 1946
REPORT BY
President William M. Nathan
TO
LODGES IN DISTRICT GRAND LODGE NO. 7, B'NAI B'RITH
NOTE: This report should be read carefully and its
contents transmitted to every lodge member. Jerome Mark
My dear Brothers:
On the 3rd and 4th inst. Bro, A. B. Freyer and I attended the meeting
of the Executive Committee of the Supreme Lodge. I am taking this opportunity
to report to you the major things that occurred, as well as to tell you of a
few things that happened thereafter in which I think you would be interested.
There was a full attendance of the Supreme Lodge Executive Committee at the
meeting.
The high spot of the meeting was the presentation of the War Service
Award by General Eisenhower. This was a thrilling experience, and Henry
Monsky's words to the General that we were in the presence of one of our
contemporary immortals will always ring in my ears, Similarly the General's
reply to Henry when Henry said that we were not forgetting that the war is
still on for many of our boys and that we propose to keep the hospitals
supplied with the necessary material for the maintenance of their morale,
and the General said, "Mr. Monsky, those words are music to my ears," will
likewise always be recalled.
The allocation of $4500.00 made by the Supreme Lodge for maintenance
of youth work in our District is a healthy sign and means that we will be
called upon to match it with a like amount. I am sure there will be no
difficulty in doing this because a $9000.00 appropriation for the Youth
Department, headed by George Shendelman, is not an overly expensive
proposition. Indeed, if B'nai B'rith is going to amount to anything in the
next 10 or 15 years, it is the writer's opinion that we will have to captivate
the imagination.and enlist the cooperation of the boys who will be the leaders
15 years from now.
The Hillel program as presented by Dr. Sachar received such an ovation
as Abe Sachar alone is entitled to get. Dr. Sachar has consented to be in
Houston for two days of our Convention, will be our Cultural Advancement
speaker Sunday evening, will address a Youth Rally during the time he is
here, and will also appear on the program of the Women's Grand Lodge of
District #7. All in all, he is going to be a busy man but we in District #7
will be the beneficiaries of his being here.
