Frieda Tischler grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and came from an Orthodox Jewish background. Her roots in B’nai B’rith began in 1938 when she joined the only BBG chapter in Pittsburgh (known as the B’nai B’rith Young Women’s Auxiliaries). Tischler served as president of her chapter, region, and district, until she was elected as the first International N’siah in 1945. Tischler had a deep sense of commitment to Jewish values and credited BBG for molding her life to become a “doer.” She remained engaged with BBG as an alumna until her passing in 2004.
