RECOMMENDATION FOR INVESTIGATION OF PRESENT BBYO SET-UP We make the recommendation that our Grand Lodge request that an immediate meeting of the Youth Commission for the purpose of investigating the policies of the present administration of BBYO be held. Our recommendation for this request is based on the complete change of the nature of AZA. B'nai Brith, representing a substantial body of U. S. Jewry has always pur- ported to be a highly-democratic organization. Yet this change in AZA was brought about not only without the approval of the membership, but almost completely without their knowledge that it was made. It is the duty of B'nai Brith, through the officers entrusted with its leadership, to provide for the Jewish Youth of the world, an all-inclusive program which will permit them to develop their personalities and character, to acquire a Jewish culture and a proper appreciation of all things Jewish, to learn to live harmoniously with fellow members of the Jewish faith as well as members of other faiths, and to realize the importance of aiding others less fortunate than them- selves. Is such a program conceivable? Our only answer is that just such a program began 22 years ago, and grew to be the largest Jewish Youth organizations in the world, and continued with ever-increasing success until its abrupt end in 1945. And what was the cause of this sudden ending? AZA's inherent weakness? Or rather was it a new ideology that crept in, conceived and effected by several top-rank officials? Let us investigate this new ideology to decide what qualities it has about it that would warrant such a sweeping change. As far as we can tell, the purpose of the new program appears to have as its main function the inculcation of Jewish culture among our youth. We do not wish to deregate the nobility of this purpose.
