Outside of being the first Aleph Godol of A.Z.A. I am a Ben Brith and am active in several charitable organizations, but a leader in none I am sorry to state. I am an alumnus of Phi Epsilon Pi Fraternaty, University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. The original A.Z.A. was started as a social and Zionist youth group. My father Samuel, now deceased, suggested the name of Aleph Zadik Aleph as well as the various Hebrew names for the officers. At the time we asked Sam Beber to be- come our advisor, he was the second, we already had chapter #2 in Kansas City and Lincoln, Nebr. and Des Moibes were ready to become affiliated. The A.Z.A., of course, became established nationally, several years later, after we petioned the Omaha Bnai Brith to accept us as a youth affiliate, who incidentally were not enthusiastic anout the idea, and when Sam Beber using his persuasive powers as a youngattorney succeeded in convincing the District Grand Lodge and later the nationalorganization of the feasability. There is, of course, much more to relate about the beginnings of A.Z.A. and especially about thestruggle and perseverance and the fight for recognition of the original thirteen members. However, I do not know what would be pertinent to your story, so if more information is desired from me I would be happy to relate more to someone locally. You can do me a favor, Max. About 1935 or 1936 theere appeared on the cover of an anniversary edition of the A.Z.A. or Bnai Bruthmagazine a photograph of myse lf. If it is possible to obtain a back issue of that magazine I would greastly appreciate having a copy of same. I hope I have been of some help and much success to the forthcoming story.
