MINUTES OF THE FIRST CONVENTION - ALEPH ZADIK ALEPH FOR YOUNG MEN
July 4, 1924
The first annual convention of the Order of Aleph Zadik Aleph for Young
Men was called to order at 11:15 a.m. by David Beber who was elected acting
chairman in the absence of temporary chairman Abe Babior.
The invocation was delivered by Rabbi J. M. Charlop. The meeting was
then turned over to Abe Babior at 11:30. George Libles was appointed temporary
secretary of the convention. Aleph Lester Lapidus then gave the delegates and
visitors a hearty welcome in behalf of the Omaha Chapter. Brother Sam Beber,
president of the Supreme Advisory Council, then gave the fellows a very earnest
welcome in behalf of the Supreme Advisory Council. He wished the Aleph Zadik
Aleph the best of luck and asked that the members make this the greatest
organization of its kind in the world despite the prejudices and anti-Semitic
activities.
Brother Harry Lapidus, member of the Supreme Advisory Council, in behalf
of Omaha, welcomed the delegates and asked each one to be prominent in his
community in religious and moral standards and promulgate the ideals of the
Aleph Zadik Aleph. A motion was made by Aleph William Horowitz and seconded
that the chairman appoint the rules, resolutions, and credentials committees.
The motion was carried.
The committees appointed are: Rules: Philip Klutznick, Chairman, David
Fellman, Jake Marks and Joe Bernstein.
Resolutions: Isadore Ellewitz, Chairman, Max Givot, Heim Wolberg, Sidney
Magazine, Morris Zolat, Harley Davidson, Henry Herschberg, Louis Williams.
Credentials: Israel Novicoff, Chairman, Harry Wise, Harry Levine, Morris
Siegel.
A motion to continue the morning session was ruled out of order and the
next meeting is to convene at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
